The Primary Years Program East Asia Network (PYPEAN) is an association for PYP practitioners (teachers, PYP coordinators, administrators) at authorized IB schools, candidate schools, and interested schools in the East Asian region (Japan and Korea). It is affiliated with the East Asia Association of International Baccalaureate School Heads (EAAIBSH).

The PYPEAN leadership group meets twice a year at various venues throughout Japan to discuss and promote the PYP in member schools and to the wider community.

PYPEAN was formed on November 2003 under the leadership of Ms. Kyoko Bernard, Japan Regional Representative for the IBO.

The following schools are members. Each member school is responsible for providing a chairperson for the Network for a two year term starting in November, in the order of the school’s authorization date.

Purpose of PYPEAN

The purpose of the PYP East Asian Network is:

  • To promote and support the goals and objectives of the International Baccalaureate Organization with regard to the Primary Years Programme within East Asia.
  • To be a source of information and resources to complement that already provided by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
  • To share good practice and expertise.
  • To address educational issues at a local and global level.
  • To provide a means of representation and communication between the local area, East Asia, and the Asia-Pacific regional office.
  • To provide in-service opportunities either during network meetings or at workshops hosted and organized by a Network member school.
